PiYO Results & Review

by Friday, June 13, 2014

The end of March 2014 I received an email on my phone that I didn’t quite understand at first.  I was groggy, I had just woken up from a nap resting from a 5 day cruise.  I blinked a few times and thought I read “invite… PiYO Test Group..” I had to take a second look and then JUMPED off of my couch so that I could run to my computer to read the email in its entirety.  I was in fact being invited to be a participant in the PiYO test group.  What does that mean? Well, Beachbody was sending me the entire program, schedule, and nutrition guide, I was placed in a “challenge group” with the other participants and we were on our way to completing PiYO before anyone else had a chance to try it out.  This was a moment that has changed my life in so many ways.  As a mom of 2, I found myself in a place where I felt comfortable, yet frustrated.  I was beginning to understand and allow myself to believe that I was not going to have the body that I had before I had kids and that the scale just wasn’t going to change.  When you workout every day that’s often a hard pill to swallow.  This opportunity to be in the PiYO test group came at a point in my life that I would never change because it was THE time for ME.  So I went for it 100% with my entire heart.  I followed the nutrition guide, I did the workouts, and I stayed accountable to my group and my body.

The last 60 days have FLOWN by.  You’re probably reading this before reading my weekly journals and that’s because I wanted to get the final PiYO Results & Review posted ASAP! At the time of writing this, PiYO is not available to purchase & I’m still under contract to not release TOO many details about the program, meaning I’m under some “hush hush” guidelines.  I promise that the journal updates will be coming soon and it will give you some more in depth information about how I did throughout the entire program.

What is PiYO?

PiYO is the workout for the person that needs flexibility, but can’t sit still.  I am one of those girls and PiYO was a perfect fit for me. You won’t be holding yoga poses for extended periods of time, they’ll move quickly and fluidly.  You’ll also have a great range of strength training and muscle endurance using nothing but your body weight.  The best part of it all is that you’re STILL going to create a MAJOR calorie burn with 10157112_562743367179036_3195422883925349214_nevery workout and they will leave you dripping in sweat.  PiYO is a program that EVERYONE needs.  If you are beginning your fitness journey, this is for YOU because there’s nothing difficult that you need to “follow along” with, meaning no difficult choreography or intense athletic movements.  If you struggle with injuries, back, knees, hips, any joint of any sort this is for YOU because it’s high intensity with low impact.  You will never jump, run, kick, nothing intense with PiYO.  The flow of the yoga style movements releases tension in your body.  If you are an athlete or an endurance runner, this is for YOU.  You may be feeling like PiYO sounds like it’s not enough for you, however your body needs to have the flexibility training to prevent injuries during training.  There is literally a benefit for EVERYONE with PiYO.  To get some more information click here to watch the PiYO promo video.

PiYO Workout Breakdown

PiYO is a 60 day program, 6 days a week and the workouts range from 20-45 minutes varying each day.  The program comes with 8 basic workouts and one bonus workout.  Month 1 will work on perfecting alignment and building some muscle endurance and strength with body resistance workouts.  Month 2 steps up a little bit and adds in a couple longer workouts and full body sculpting.  I have created 2 separate posts that give a breakdown of each workout in Month 1 and Month 2.  Please feel free to review both of those posts to get a more detailed explanation on each PiYO Workout.

My PiYO Review

I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to my full review of PiYO.  This program has literally changed my life.  As I said earlier I was in a place where I felt like I was just going to stay in this “mom body”.  I wasn’t over weight, but I was “skinny fat” and for someone that works out frequently and eats pretty well it was hard to not see results on my body.  I’m not a cardio lover, but I love to lift weights.  I lifted weights 3 times a week and sucked it up and got my cardio in and I just couldn’t make changes with my body.  There were so many things that I felt I was doing wrong and yet doing right and I had nothing.  I just realized, ya know what, I’m a mom of 2 and this is just the way I’m going to be and I have to be okay with that; however, I wasn’t okay with that.

Screenshot 2014-06-02 at 10.50.09 PMPiYO has given me a brand new body.  I haven’t seen the numbers on the scale that I see now since I was in high school, my waist is shrinking before my eyes, I’m not fitting in ANY of my clothes (which is good but bad on the wallet) and I feel like a brand new person.  That “mom body” is gone.  I do still have the loose skin and the stretch marks that came from being 175 pounds when I was pregnant, but I’m happy.  I feel AMAZING in this body.  I’m stronger, leaner, and more defined.  I have seen muscles in my legs that I didn’t even know existed. One day I stretched my legs in bed and had to yell to my husband to come look and verify that those were QUADS POPPING out of my legs.  It’s insane. I didn’t expect the scale to drop, but I wanted my body to change, and in the end – I GOT BOTH!  Aside from the physical changes, PiYO has given me a more confident feeling about myself.  I feel like I have my life back.  I’m not depressed about shopping, I’m not nervous to be in a swimsuit.  Most of all, I’m STRONG!  I was afraid to go 60 days without lifting weights because honestly, since I started lifting, I haven’t ever gone that long without lifting.  I was afraid I was going to lose muscle and boy was I wrong.  I have built leaner muscle with PiYO than I ever have with lifting.

One of my biggest struggles with being in this test group was the nutrition guide.  I eat fairly well and I learned a lot of my eating habits from the 21 Day Fix.  It was an easy way to break down my nutrition guidelines and taught me a lot about what I need to eat, when I need to eat, and how much I need to eat.  With PiYO the nutrition guide is very similar so it was an easy transition, but I still struggled.  I confess – I love pizza, I love chips, I love BEER, wine and cocktails.  Being in the test group I had to be VERY specific for my results on my nutrition guide and stick as close as possible.  I’m not going to lie, I had a few slip ups.  There were a couple nights where I may have gone overboard on the cocktails, I may have snuck some pizza or a cheeseburger in there, but I’m human! I would never try to tell you that I was perfect and on point because I wasn’t.  That being said, the nutrition guide is fairly simple to follow.  It’s not something that takes a lot of intense research, no worrying about macros and all of that, just plain and simple clean eating, good portion control and focus. 10411441_577378315715541_100811743197321340_n

My favorite workouts of PiYO are Core & Sculpt.  Core leaves EVERYTHING in my midsection on fire yet you’re not sitting there doing a million crunches.  PiYO works the entire core, so you focus on abs, back, and “trunk”.  The core is the powerhouse of PiYO and I was FEELING it after Core.  Sculpt is a different kind of pain all together.  Sculpt works everything from your upper body to lower body, while building muscle endurance and truly sculpting each and every part of your body.  They’re short effective workouts that leave you dripping in sweat.  All of the PiYO workouts build an amazing cardio effect and calorie burn.  The great thing about this is that I’ll never HAVE to do cardio again if I don’t want to because I can just swap in some PiYO and get it all done doing something that I love.

Overall, this program has changed everything about my body and my life.  I thought that my soul mate program was Turbo Fire, but I was wrong.  This program is it.  I have never completed an entire Beachbody workout program and not missed a SINGLE workout on a schedule until PiYO.  I never felt like I had to DRAG myself up to workout.  I enjoyed every workout and never felt like I was killing my body.  Every day it was something that I wanted to do.  This is it for me and I hope that it is for you!

This is the moment that you’ve been waiting for and I HOPE that you read through everything that came before this and didn’t just scroll to the bottom for the final reveal but this is the time.  I want to begin with letting you know the disclaimer of course, not all results are guaranteed and vary from person to person.  I followed the nutrition guide almost to perfect, as close as I could get without going crazy, and I drank Shakeology every day.  So, just know for best results it’s important that you follow the nutrition guide and workout schedule.

DRUMROLLLLLLL PLEASE! In 60 days of PiYO, I lost 12 pounds and 12.5″ all over my body (5″ in my waist alone).  I am now 105 pounds and I have a 26″ waist, which I haven’t seen either of those numbers since I was a senior in High School. This “mom body” is starting to see definition in my abs, I couldn’t even tell you if I have ever seen upper obliques pop out on my body and I was pretty athletic at one point in my life.  I am over the moon with my results and extremely impressed with the results that this program is creating and I’m so thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to share this PiYO Results & photo 1 (2)Review with you!
