Five Ways to Refresh & Reboot in September

by Monday, September 5, 2016

Living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I’m not quite ready to let go of the summer wear, yet I am looking forward to boots & sweaters and love having a normal routine again. September really feels like a “new beginning” more than January to me, is that weird? I’m not sure if it’s the feeling of the kids going back to school and having my schedule back or what, but it brings a new season and this urgent feeling of making shit happen. Let me share five ways to help you reboot & refresh in September.

Clean Up Your Wardrobe

Yes, you have to clean out the summer clothes and bring in the warmer weather wardrobe. But, lately I’ve been dying to really dig in and go for a capsule wardrobe like the one my mentor Cara Alwill Leyba wrote about on her blog. As much as I tried, I couldn’t get that minimalized. I did however give away about half of what was in my closet and it felt amazing. It gave me a fresher feeling towards what I was seeing in the closet, as well as knowing what more of my style currently is. We change frequently and it is important to let your style and wardrobe follow suit. Spend an afternoon reminiscing about where you wore this outfit or pulling out the items with tags that you never wore and let it go.

Focus on Your Fitness

Let’s be honest, summer isn’t our favorite time to workout and eat healthy. With the weather cooling down it’s time to turn up the heat. Pick a home workout program (now that you have more time with the kids gone to school!), check out a yoga class, or get back in the gym. Start small with just a few days a week and 30 minutes a day. As you grow in strength you can build up and add more to your schedule, but don’t overdue it because then you may let yourself slip and fall into the holiday madness. If you need help getting started, email me. I would love to have you in my next fitness group and help you focus on your goals.

Revisit Your Goals

Whether you’re into New Year Resolutions or 6 month catch-ups, it’s always a good thing to set goals so we can better ourselves consistently. Setting goals motivates the body, inspires the mind, and creates new ideas to change your life. Pour a glass of wine, champagne or tea, light a candle and create a new list of things that you would like to achieve over the last 4 months of the year. Focus on things that make you happy, make you feel good, and bring a light to your life.

Create a Plan of Action

Once you have your new goals set, it’s time to put things into action. Take a look at your list and see what goals are business or career oriented and the tasks that you need to do in your business. Pick the goals that focus on your family, mental wellness, and happiness and make a brainstorm of the things that you can do to make those experiences happen. After you have a good list of action items you can begin to organize them into your daily schedule. Make sure to pick one task from the experiences list because these are the items that are bringing you happiness, so why not make your day a little happier right?

Embrace the New Season

No, I don’t mean pull out all of your flannel shirts, Ugg boots and order a daily PSL. What I mean is embrace the change. Fall is an interesting season. It may seem as though the plants and leaves are dying when they’re creating a beautiful landscape and falling off the trees, but really they’re preparing for change. Only you can know what type of season you are in right now. Maybe you partied all summer long and you are looking at this season to be a time to hustle. Maybe you hustled all year long and you want to enjoy the quiet and take more time for your family. Only you know what your season looks like. Embrace it and love yourself during the time fully.
