July of 2009, I decided to make a change for my health and to lose the 75 pounds that I packed on when pregnant with our 2nd child. I ordered Turbo Jam, a home cardio kickboxing workout that I was sure I’d try for a week and then let collect dust on my entertainment system for the rest of all time. Quickly, I was very surprised that I absolutely loved the workouts. I was losing weight, having fun, dancing and totally motivated by the trainer Chalene Johnson. Fast forward 9 months later and I lost almost 50 pounds and felt in the best shape of my life. Then it was brought to my attention by my friend Mindy that I was sharing this program with people and motivating so many people to workout just by talking about it that I should become an official Beachbody Coach -HA. Yeah thanks, I had tried the home business thing before, and I wasn’t so great at it, why would I join another?
Not only was I terrified of the idea of signing up to another home business, I had to pay to get in – I thought who wants to pay $40 to join something to try to make money? That sounds preposterous. On top of that, we were broke. When I say broke, I don’t mean that we could only afford to go out to eat once a week, I mean that we were BROKE. I didn’t have any pay for my 6 week maternity leave the year before and keeping up with the bills drained our entire savings. My husband had a bit of a spending problem (I can say that because he’ll admit it!) and all of the financials were causing major hardships on our marriage. I was afraid that we were going to be divorced before our daughter turned 1. I thought to myself, there’s no way that I can do this, I’m from a small town, Mindy is from the same town and her business is booming – she already has all the customers, how am I going to do this? And please tell me how I’m going to run a business as a busy working 40 hour week mom and still have time for myself and my family, riddle me that. Of course I put it off for a good 2-3 months and wouldn’t give in.
Fast forward 3 months later, I was hiding from my husband in a room signing up to be a Beachbody Coach (he was not too enthusiastic about the scenario due to the last business). Three months later, one big decision and $40 later, I was in. They officially had me and I was ready to get a discount on my products and leave it at that. To my surprise, business just took off in the first month and I thought, ya know this could really be something that I could do for a long time. I was keeping myself accountable to my own workouts, getting myself in better shape, meeting and inspiring so many other people and making extra money for our family! My husband was floored when I told him a week after I signed up “Hey, by the way I didn’t listen to anything you said and signed up to be a coach and made $50 my first week.” He was okay with it, but not thrilled.
Over the next couple of months, I took in every single opportunity of training and information that I possibly could. I learned that it didn’t matter how many people lived in my town, or how many people I knew in my day to day life, it was about reaching out and using SOCIAL MEDIA!!! Hello, we are in a day and age where the internet and social media networking makes friendships, life, and business actually easier to succeed than to fail. All it takes is a little bit of commitment and focus. In just 5 months, I moved up to my goal of Diamond Rank and was making a good $150-$200 a week! Yes there were other coaches making more money than I was, but that was okay, not everyone else was a mom working full time either. I was putting only a couple hours each week into the business and it was giving me some return.
In 2011, I really began focusing on my goals and pushing for success. Since becoming a coach, I was now certified to teach group fitness classes, in the best shape of my life, helping others and MY FAMILY make healthier choices and being a role model for my kids. I soon realized that hey, this is something that I can stick with for good!! Following my first inspiration into fitness, Chalene Johnson taught me how to create to do lists, make and reach for goals according to my priorities, and know what is most important for me, my family and the success of my business.
The first week of 2012, I sat down with a notepad and wrote out my Top 10 goals for 2012 with a PUSH Goal – that ONE goal that when met is going to PUSH the others through to accomplishment. There were so many things that I wanted to offer for my family and our life together and I couldn’t wait to put the wheels into motion and get cracking. I am currently typing this while sitting on my brand new deck on my new patio furniture in the sunshine. This may seem silly, but having the ability to pay for this in cash has been a dream for the last 3 years. I never thought that I would have it accomplished so soon, and especially completed before summer even hits, but I wrote it on my goals and reminded myself everyday to work harder for it. I am so proud to say that, by my 2 year anniversary (May 9, 2012), I am a 2 Star Diamond Coach with a booming business, I crossed off 4 of my Top 10 2012 goals, and the other 6 are following close behind. The most important to me is in the video below. I hope that you take the time to watch it, because me just explaining doesn’t do the story any justice.
This has been an absolute dream come true for me and my family. I have accomplished things that I never thought were going to be possible, I have paid off nearly ALL of my debt (only a mortgage and a car payment left), literally SAVED my marriage, and tripled my income and opening doors for me like I could never imagine. Most importantly, I have met the most amazing and inspiring people. Everyone on my team consistently reminds me to be thankful for this opportunity being in my life because it has brought me closer to people that I would have never met in any other circumstance and the opportunity to reach out and inspire others the way I have been in the last 2 years. This isn’t a gimmick, it’s fitness and a lifestyle and I couldn’t be happier.
